When using the "export" option in the "Events and tasks" menu I only can chose which calendar I want to export, but I can't specify the storage place or format. When using "publish" I can specify both, but the process doesn't start or finish. I'm working on linux mint 18.3, cinnamon. (I have saved a calendar file as .ics before succesfully and have integrated the data into into my phone, but the file is old. No, I don't want to synchronize sunbird and google data, because google calendar keeps re-entering everything into sunbird, thus doubling everything. I'd rather import manually from time to time.)

You can choose the export file format from the drop-down menu at the bottom right of the export dialog.

Thanks for trying to help! Yes, so it says in all the descriptions of the procedure, but there is no "bottom right of the export dialog". All I get is the "Which calendar go you want to export from?"-dialog (see image), I choose one, click "ok", and it's gone without any more options whatsoever. Thunderbird is 60.4.0 64 bit.

Are you using the Lightning version provided by your distribution?

If so you can try to remove the distribution provided packages for both, Thunderbird and Lightning, and install the vanilla version of Thunderbird from https://www.thunderbird.net/

Note, Lightning is already bundled with Thunderbird, and does not need to be installed separately.

I'm sorry, but I don't get there. I uninstalled, followed your link (found no trace of vanilla, though), installed following the instructions here https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/installing-thunderbird-linux , but nothing was installed. I guess system requirements are missing https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/60.5.0/system-requirements/ . Going back to installing from the command line I tried to publish again, got the screenshot below for you (maybe the storage address is a bad idea?), but the process starts and goes on infinitely.

Hello, I managed to save my data as .ics, indeed the address I typed was bad, it has to start with file:///home/... So you can regard the problem as solved, thank you very much!
