The contents of my Thunderbird inbox disappeared this morning. Now I get only new mails. Where have the old ones gone? And is Thunderbird subject to such problems?

Are you connected as IMAP or POP3? It sounds like an IMAP interface problem, and I don't have much experience with that. If you're running as POP3, I may be able to help.

Do the new messages that you now answer, but don't delete, now remain?

Thx,

TCS

Sorry I was delayed. My in server is POP3, out SMTP. I have had this problem with a Microsoft mail programme, don't know it's name, but not with Outlook or Opera mail. At the moment it seems that mail received by Thunderbird today stays, but nothing older.

Do you have a filter running? Quick filter Bar - check none of the filters are selected.

Info required:

  • How many pop mail accounts do you have in the left Folder Pane?

I wonder if Thunderbird created a new mail account folder because it could not access the old one for some unknown reason.

How to check this out.... Right click on pop maila ccount in Folder pane and select 'Settings' Select 'Server Settings' for that pop mail account bottom right...'Local directory:' click in the text box area and use the right arrow key to get all the way to the end as part is hidden due to lack of space. left click and hold down and drag to left to highlight text. right click on highlighted text and select 'copy'

  • paste the copied info into this forum question.

Make hidden files and folders visible:

In Thunderbird

  • 'Help' > 'Troubleshooting Information'
  • click on 'Open Folder' button

A new window should appear showing the contents of your 'Profile name' folder; usually called 'xxxxxxxx.default' where the x's are letters and numbers.

  • click on 'Mail' folder

This folder contains 'Local Folders' mail account and also all your pop mail accounts.

Info required:

  • Please post an image showing the contents of the 'Mail' folder.
