Hi there Briefly, on a Win7 pc using MS Outlook express as default email client, I used to be able to send an email automatically from another application Medical Director (or MD for short) from HCN. MD has a simple built in word processor with a 'Send Doc In Email' button that when clicked opens up the default MAPI compliant email client, prefills the recipient and subject fields, attaches the rtf document and sends the email automatically. The process is virtually run in the background.

However, now on Win8.1 64bit with all the same apps except I have installed Thunderbird British version 31.2.0. The automatic sending of emails dont seem to be working 100% which is essential with an application that requires a MAPI compliant email client. What happens is I create the rtf and push the 'Send Doc In Email' - OK so far BUT... The Thunderbird icon starts flashing down in the Taskbar and its the email that should have been sent automatically. I then have to manually click the Send button in the email window :(

All the details are there for the email (recipient, subject, attachment) so there isnt any hang up on MD's side.

I have checked all the Default Programs in the Control Panel and set all emailing to use Thunderbird alas to no success.

Now at a bit of a loss now.... any help appreciated. p.s. would the Add-On 'Lookout' solve this?

So it is creating the email and appending the document as an attachment. You can see this in the TB Write window.

As far as I'm aware, this sounds normal. It creates the email ready to send, but does not actually send it. This then allows you to enter some content and check details before hitting the Send button.

Maybe and this is my theory... this is because it only adds the document as an attachment, it does not add any useful composed message, so any recipient might believe it is spam or something similar and not actually read it. After all there are people who abuse peoples email addresses appending attachments designed to either infect a computer with malware or misdirect people into disclosing information via forms. So content can be useful in determining if it 'sounds' like a genuine email from that sender.

in addition, i found that there was another bit of software that was left off the install that helps the MAPI process. Once installed; all sorted. thanks TH
