How can I change Favicons in Bookmarks drop-down menu? Win 8.1, Firefox 25.0.1 (Bookmark Favicon Changer 1.74 doesn't do it.)
Some sites return a "white" favicon on the Bookmarks in the drop-down menu. These sites return the proper icon in IE drop-down menus. I have tried Bookmark Favicon Changer with no effect. I have tried modifying the favicon table with SQLite Manager. I have tried deleting the favicon entries on said tables and then revisited the site. All these efforts to no avail. Is there a simple way to point Firefox 25.0.1 to an .ico (or .jpg or .png) file or to a bookmark that has the proper favicon in order to change "white" favicons to "correct" favicons? Thanks in advance.

The easiest way I've found are the steps below.
1) Using IE, go to the site where you have a missing Firefox bookmark icon.
2) Using Windows Explorer, Copy & Paste C:\Users\YOUR_ACCOUNT_NAME\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files into the address bar, click the 'go to' arrow
3) Copy & Paste the site's favicon into a newly created icon folder. Rename the favicon to a unique name, i.e., google.ico
4) Using Windows Explorer, Copy & Paste %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles into the address bar, click the 'go to' arrow. Click into your profile, then into the chrome folder.
5) Using Notepad, open file userChrome.css
Using Google as an example, I need my Google Firefox bookmark to have a Google icon. The Google bookmark is named Google. It's icon file name is google.ico
6) Copy & Paste the entire code below, including the dashes & the words Bookmark Icons into userChrome.css. The forum isn't rendering the code in it's intended form. I've uploaded a picture of my userChrome.css. Use that as a guide after pasting.
/* ------------------------------ Bookmark Icons ------------------------------- */
.bookmark-item[label="Google"] image { width: 0 !important; height: 0 !important; padding: 0 0 16px 16px !important; background-image: url("file:///E:/Icon Files/Company Icons/Google - 3.ico"); }
7) From userChrome.css, the final step is to change the Bookmark name, located in line
.bookmark-item[label="Google"] image {
from Google to your Bookmark name
Then change the Bookmark file name & location of the icon, located in line background-image: url("file:///C:/Icon Files/google.ico"); from google.ico to your Bookmark file name & location.
Important: note the direction of the slashes in the location of the icon above. If you copy & paste the location it will look like this C:\Icon Files\google.ico. This will not work!
I've uploaded a picture of my userChrome.css
Good luck, Drew

Me and my customers have a simpler solution than doing the above convoluted steps. We went back to Internet Explorer with Sandboxie.
Firefox developers forgets that not everybody wants to fiddle with, nor memorize, command line twaddle. Nor do we have time to modify multiple machines. People also identify bookmarks faster by image/favicons on the Favorites Bar, NOT full text that takes up lots of room.
Sigh... looks like the ddevelopers are in command, again. Firefox's going the way of Netscape and Mosaic, again. This time, no old timers are going to be around to pine for it. We'll just go IE, Chrome or Opera. ................................
