Firefox repeatedly crashes even after multiple reinstalls
I keep getting this at random (but frequent) times:
We're Sorry Firefox had a problem and crashed. We'll try to restore your tabs and windows when it restarts. To help us diagnose and fix the problem, you can send us a crash report.
I've uninstalled/reinstalled Firefox multiple times. I'm relatively sure that it crashes before I re-update Flash (if I ever got around to it.) I have few crash reports since the last reinstall because I've switched to Chrome until I can get this resolved. Here's what I have:

hey Charlem4gne, some other users who have recently updated the graphics driver for their ati hardware (to ati catalyst version 12.8) have reported similar crashes. please try disabling hardware acceleration in firefox > options > advanced > general & see if this resolves the issue of frequent crashes for the moment until ati releases a new driver.
Wow! Thanks for the incredibly quick response! I have indeed recently updated my ati drivers. I did as you suggested. Let's see if that fixes it! <crosses fingers>
Note for forum cross referencing purposes.
These are empty signature crashes e.g.
- Report for CrashID bp-1251d8bb-704c-40be-90ee-ef12c2120921
- and if forum linkification is failing
1251d8bb-704c-40be-90ee-ef12c2120921 - Crash Signature: (null signature)
- obviously no associated bugs
- and if forum linkification is failing

hello john, the issue is tracked in bug #789251.
Thanks for the reference madperson, I had noticed you solving some of these ati crashes but had not yet identified the bug.
When I come across a crash thread I usually attempt to add the Crash Signature. The null signature crashes are always a problem, they tend to be the number one top crash and can cover all sorts of things.
At some stage we may get the facility to search properly for crash signatures that are posted in the support forum. You may notice that the crash-stats site has a link that attempts a search of the support forum but
- it usually does not give sensible results, it often either just maxes out, or returns no matches.
- often crash signatures are not mentioned in support threads
- so at least if I add them there is a possibility of searching and finding them (Although now we are probably stopping web search indexing of some of these threads ! before we develop an advanced search that will find them)
Don't think any of these apply to me. Firefox started crashing right after I added an update that showed up on my computer. Sometimes it crashes two-three times on the same download and then will work but do it again on the next one.
I also noticed that Firefox changed it's Search from Google to something supported by Google which is terrible. The Google one would find items with a barcode number and would click on translated pages which the current one doesn't.
How can I get to the Firefox that does not crash and has the right search mechanism. I have already given up on ever seeing videos on Firefox and get those on Internet Explorer. If I was not in the middle of a major project,, I would quit Firefox completely.
Not sure what is going on. Firefox used to be the best Browser around and now it is less than marginal.
hello dmitrirex, as you've already noted this thread here dealt with a different situation. please open a new question and include some of the latest crash report ids & your system details from firefox > help > troubleshooting information so that we can give you better advice. thank you!
Thanks for your help. I finally found out how to reset Mozilla and it fixed everything, even able to play songs and watch videos.
I know this isn't on the topic but why does Mozilla keep adding things that mess everything up and how can I make it so that I do not get any more reminders for updates?
