Applications using "MAILTO"
My application is suppose to generate an email and put it in the OUTBOX. Version 12 of firefox stops with a Google search page with the MAILTO info in the search field. FF & TB are defaults
This application has worked since about version 3 of FF.
No other changes have been made to my two PC except loading version 12. Going back to version 11 and I have no problems.
Doing a Google search I see that applications using "MAILTO" option is a big problem with Firefox version 12. See http://boardreader.com/thread/Firefox_and_Email_problem_9rc6X2c9zx.html plus other.
I reload version 11 and I have no problems.
I am using Avast AIS (includes malware/firewall) on one PC & MSN MSE on another (Both windows 7 64) (both have same problem)

My MAILTO problem was finally fixed on the June 29, 2012 Firefox version 14 beta 10 release.

My application using MAILTO also does not work in firefox version 13 beta 1, 2, 3 or 4

Hi sweepsid79, when I visit that thread, there is a reply from "LadyMorticia" indicating that she was able to eliminate the problem by resetting Firefox's application settings. This unfortunately is necessary from time to time because there is no convenient UI for adding mailto back to the Applications tab.
The application settings were previously set as download actions, so I'm going to refer you to an article on download problems. In particular, see:
Unable to download or save files > Reset download actions for all file types
Hopefully this will restore normal behavior. Any luck?

same problem :-( try to fix by resetting the download actions as described. now mailto starts my outlook-express, but no "new-mail-window" appears like in FF12
