I have an macbook. The pinch/squeeze function (enlarges images via trackpad) will not work on my laptop on this version of firefox.
The pinch open and close (enlarges screen and images via trackpad) function on my Macbook Pro does not work. It worked with the previous version of firefox.
I'm not happy trying to add fixes to new version firefox. Please tell me how to get rid of this new version and reinstall the previous.

Some gestures have been removed in Firefox 4.
You can restore the zoom feature by changing the values of the related prefs on the about:config page.
browser.gesture.pinch.in -> cmd_fullZoomReduce browser.gesture.pinch.in.shift -> cmd_fullZoomReset browser.gesture.pinch.out -> cmd_fullZoomEnlarge browser.gesture.pinch.out.shift -> cmd_fullZoomReset browser.gesture.pinch.latched -> false
To open the about:config page, type about:config in the location (address) bar and press the "Enter" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.
You can use the Filter bar at to top of the about:config page to locate a pref more easily.
Entering the config data does not work. Firefox needs to quickly develop something that will restore functionality to my MacBook Pro trackpad...this is disturbing that such a simple function has been disabled by "upgrading" to Firefox 4. It's Safari or Chrome from now on until this issue has been addressed.
Thank you so much cor-el, it was easy to do and works great, again, thank you so much.

I have to agree with briandsk, this is a major flaw in the usability on a Mac. I made the config changes and it didn't work, so I downgraded back to 3.6 which had always worked before. There the function was broken too. I confirmed the configuration and it was as specified above. Still no luck. Instead of improving the situation, it got worse!
Believing that this is a significant bug that would be quickly addressed, I decided to upgrade to 5.0.1. What was there to lose? Lo and behold, still not fixed! Whasup with dat?
I can't help but wonder what the Mozilla team was thinking when this feature was disabled in the first place. I'm no fan of Safari, but until this is corrected, Adios Firefox.
Call me when you get this fixed.
My trackpad highlight to select feature will not hold. I can highlight to select, but whenever I release the pressure, the curser jumps back to where it was without allowing the selected word/phrase/section to be edited. Only messed up in Firefox with newest update... and in text boxes like chats. Also same issue on other macbook I tried.
Works fine in Safari so is not my laptop.
This means whenever I need to edit anything typed, I have to backspace completely erasing everything between where I stopped and where I want to edit. Very annoying.
This FIX (See attached SCREENSHOT Image) seems to be working for most users: Type the following into the address bar: about:config
Then use the filter (top left side) and type the word, Gesture.
Make the following changes to the following 2 fields:
- Numbered list itembrowser.gesture.pinch.in ~ enter the field and change the value to, itemcmd_fullZoomReduce
- Numbered list itembrowser.gesture.pinch.out ~ enter the field and change the value to, cmd_fullZoomEnlarge
These changes should immediately restore the pinch gestures you are used to. Try it as soon as you make the changes and let us know. I've included a screenshot.
Note the changes in the 2 lines Hi-Lighted in Green and make them. This immediately worked for me. Good luck.
I'm seeing the same problem (pinch open/close) continue with FF 8.0.0 and 8.0.1, on macbook pro running 10.6.8, as well as a couple other oddities in the trackpad response and how it displays on the screen.
Following the instructions about for changing about:config brought back the pinch open/close resizing, which I have to use ALL the time because a 13" screen you just need to enlarge things often.
Why FF turned this off is a mystery, it made much more sense to leave it on.
