Hi! I need some help, please. Is there a way to move more than just one bookmark at a time to folders on my Windows laptop? I have thousands of bookmarks saved on my Firefox. And I wish to save them all on my laptop. But in the way you save one and one, not with that whole saving everything in one file. But saving them all so I can just double click the icon link in my windows to have it opened in Firefox again.

So anyway. It is possible to drag one and one bookmark like this. But I have never figured out how to move more at once. Is this possible? Please help. It would make my life so much easier, when I need to go through the 20,000+ things I have saved.

This works much the same as the Windows File Explorer. Click on the first entry. Then, holding down the <Control> key, select other entries. When you are done, release the key. Then, move the cursor to one of the entries. Holding down the left mouse, move them to wherever.

I have a different suggestion:

(1) Import your Firefox bookmarks to Internet Explorer 11

See: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/troubleshoot/browsers/transfer-bookmarks-from-firefox-to-ie

That will save them in the Windows Favorites folder

Note: Windows 10 always tries to run Edge when you want to get to IE, but if you are persistent, you can do it.

(2) Move the shortcut files from the Windows Favorites folder to wherever you want them using standard file moving methods

Note that IE stores the bookmarks as a Windows folder structure, so in your case you would end up with over 20,000 extra folders on the hard drive, whereas Firefox and possibly Edge (don't know) stores them in a dedicated database. You can also export the bookmarks to an HTML file and open this file in a Firefox tab or in an HTML capable editor or file viewer.

Hi. Thank you for trying to help. I have sadly downloaded Windows 11, and it does not let me open Internet Explorer at all. Tried to google, and it is not possible with Windows 11 :\

No. This is not it. I need to move all 20,000+ files to folders on my laptop, and be able to move more than one from Firefox. Only possible to drag one and one.. which sucks.

Open the Bookmarks Manager; Press the Alt or F10 key to bring up the toolbar, and select Bookmarks. Hot key is <Control> (Mac=<Command>) <Shift> B. Firefox 84+ <Control> (Mac=<Command>) <Shift> O.

Once the window is open, at the top of the page, press the button labeled Import and Backup. Select Export Bookmarks To HTML, and follow the prompts and save it to a HTML file. Copy the file to another computer/profile. Repeat the instructions above, BUT select Import Bookmarks From HTML.

This is still not what I am asking for help with. That only saves everything in one HTML file….. I’m asking for help on how to get all bookmarks in one and one file. So I can open them up via my Windows folders, and have them all saved in different places on my laptop.

Hi again :) I had an older laptop that I could try this on; don’t have Windows 11 ready for update yet. Internet Explorer is there. Could even move more bookmarks at a time to folders like I want to. But it keeps crashing when I try to import my HTML file with my bookmarks. Do you know what I can do then, or what is wrong? It adds 300 bookmarks, but no more. It starts, then just shows a red X.

Hi Carina, I don't know whether that is a problem with the export file created by Firefox, or a limitation of Internet Explorer (for example, if you have folders in folders in folders or some other complex structure). It sounds like IE isn't giving any explanation to help us along.

Unfortunately, Firefox doesn't have the ability to export only part of your bookmarks at a time, if volume is the problem. Maybe there's an add-on that could do it?

You can check what folders are created on the hard drive when importing this file and then check the bookmarks HTML backup to see where/what line is causing the problem. It is possible that you have a bookmark with characters that aren't valid or their name is too long and exceeds the maximum length of the file path.
