How can I revert to original white background/black font for main screen (text messages are fine)?

The main screen (that shows Inbox messages) has changed to be a black background with white font for read messages and bold white font for unread. This happened last night without me doing anything. (The unread actually went from bold white to bold blue just now.) Writing a new text message is normal - white background, black text. I've tried doing the tools/options/formatting /colors, but it has no effect on the main screen. My poor eyes!! Thanks for any help.

I have a similar problem. The background of message body portion of my emails is black and the font is dark blue. I can't hardly read the message while I am typing. The theme is set to light. The rest of the Thunderbird is in the light theme, The toolbars and menu options are all white. I tried to reset to the dark theme and then back to the light, but I still get the black background on only the message body portion. The header is white.
