Several recent updates mess up tabs on bottom and that add on causes problems with full screen in youtube, TED and FB

more options

After several recent updates fo Firefox, I can't use any Tabs on Bottom add-on without messing up something else in Firefox. Specifically, full screen modes for both TED and Youtube vids and fullscreen mode for photos in Facebook - making any of these full screen results in EVERYTHING disappearing from above the main window - Tabs, URL bar and Toolbar. I can still use key commands to advance through my Tabs, so they are still there, just not visible.

Furthermore, the Tabs on Bottom plugs mess up the order of the URL and Toolbar. Now the Tool bar ends up on top. I don't want that. I want this order Top = address bar. Middle = bookmarks. Bottom = Tabs.

Now, you may say that this is a problem that the developers of Tabs On Bottom plugs have created. The thing is, at one time, oh about maybe firefox 43, all of this worked fine. Now it does not. And I hate tabs on top. It's just wrong.

Please, can't you make the order of these three basic navigation areas a built-in preference for all? That way, no messing with 3rd party devs for these basic features. And they are basic features. I mean, there was a time when you didn't even NEED a plug to have tabs on bottom. It was one of your own updates that messed this up.

You could even put this pref under the View menu (I'm on a mac) and call it something like Navigation bars order. Please, for the love of fine Dutch cheese, make this so and put it somewhere as a preference. Firefox is becoming increasingly frustrating to use in the way that I like and I don't even use many add-ons, just the tabs things and adblocker.

Thanks, Victor Smith

You can look at the userChrome.css solution I posted in this thread to move the tabs to the lower position just above the browsing area without using an extension.

  • [/questions/1049464] Bookmarks toolbar POSITION resets to the very top after closing firefox

Add code to the userChrome.css file below the default @namespace line.

@namespace url("http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul"); /* only needed once */

#navigator-toolbox toolbar:not(#nav-bar):not(#toolbar-menubar) {-moz-box-ordinal-group:10}
#TabsToolbar {-moz-box-ordinal-group:1000!important}

The customization files userChrome.css (user interface) and userContent.css (websites) are located in the chrome folder in the Firefox profile folder.

If this is has been broken since Firefox 44, the authors of those extensions probably know there is an issue, but if not, you could report it to them. Often there is a support contact method on the extension's page on the Add-ons site. While you're there, you could scroll down and expand the Versions section and click the All Versions link to see whether they've already submitted an updated version for review.
