outlook.com really bad

more options

Hi here,

Just some comments to compare with other user experiences.

Really bad bad bad relation between outlook.com and Thunderbird.

Continuously syncing, and bad syncing, cannot copy/move emails between folders server-server, local-server, server-local without problems, never sure you are right copy them. Duplicating/triplicating/quadruplicating... same emails over multiple move or copy (Really not unique identifier to an email that lets to manage as override or not optionally???) ... and continuous continuous continuous syncing syncing syncing ...

No way to archive to local without delete from server, gmail let you do it, but outlook don't do it correctly, and you cannot set a rule to workaround it.

- It's not a compact problem

- enable/disable account sync option, no diff between both options, same behavior.

- for a bunch of emails it's no problem ... but when manage 500, 1000 or 2000 folders ... outlook.com it's horrible horrible horrible, crash crash crash!!!

Sure outlook.com need special treatment!!!

Ohhh yeahhh ... I'm relaxed now! :)

I have trouble with outlook. but only with POP accounts. The IMAP is fine.

Have you tried turning of email scanning in your anti virus.

If you have crashes, please post the crash id. Go to the help menu, select troubleshooting information and copy and paste the crash information. from there to a message here.

For a bunch of emails no problems, but copy / move /sync folder about more 1000 emails, alternate fails and correct working. This produces problems like duplicate emails and syncing on retries, and the option for enable/disable sync copy for outlook.com account it's not really working. This make you to review the process manually, and manually copy / move / delete subsets of emails ... grrrrrr

Another annoying problem is the lack of manage archive without deleting, for example gmail manages their allmesages folder clear inbox and let you get archive to local, all from your Thunderbir. But outlook.com delete the message, and you cannot set a rule to workaround it.

We observed this problems on outlook.com, gmail seems to work properly.

No Thunderbird crashes ... it's a non correct funtionality working. For example if you have a bulk copy for 2000 emails from TB to outlook.com and outlook disconnects, then in the next retry the correct working should continue from where you left before disconnect, but not, anything can happen and in the wrong way. Then what about concepts like "imap", "Sync", no way to unique identify an email???, what about "Override, cancel??, but duplicating???"

The only you can do is resolve manually and a lot of lose time .. and when all is copied or move, entry in the normal working of a bunch of emails and luck for no sync troubles or deleting or moving ... because outlook.com migth want to send to you thousands messages again and again, no sense if you already downloaded.

I am not aware of am IMAP mail server and a client that can reliably move a thousand mails at a time. Most will do it occasionally some will do it usually. But I am not aware of a reliable client in this regard. Thunderbird included.

People apparently think mail is like moving files on a USB flash drive, But this is not the case. Therefore your expectations are basically to high and your not seeing what you want. You are also apparently of the opinion that the sync should just stop when you close the application and restart when you open it again. While this is true in theory your apparently becoming aware that the theory does not always match the reality.

The Unique identifier of a mail as far as the imap server is concerned it issues by it. So until you have synced the mail once the identifier has not been created.

The second issue is your applying the google non standards based implementation of IMAP to Outlook which have been actually pretty good about sticking to the IMAP standard. Thunderbird is full of Gmail specific code to make their weird implementation of IMAP actually work. They have no folders on Gmail. Only labels. Given mail filed in folders to de jure under IMAP you might get an idea just how far from standard Gmail is.

No I'm not expecting IMAP sync like USB Flash copy ... but yes for asynchronous IMAP folder syncing. Any way :) "theory does not always match reality" I add "Sure!!, this is the rule on computing!!!" ;)

This is interesting: "until you have synced the mail once the identifier has not been created" ...

I know they're two diff applications IMAP and EMAIL, but just on thinking about it, will be interesting that each email should maintain their own uuid on their creation or sending and not relegate to server sync. This could avoid duplicating. I'm not sure if this is already included or out of standard implementations.

Any way, your comment cleared because emails are duplicating/triplicating/... some operations DELETE and not reuse/forward the email uuid, then it's like a new email each time.

thx Matt ;)
