I just updated Firefox, now every site I go to says the connection is untrusted. If I allow an exception, the formatting is all wrong on the site.

I "reset" Firefox at the suggestion of Mozilla as my browser was working slowly. What a mistake! As soon as I did, every site became untrusted. When I click on the allow for an exception, then the site comes up, but the formatting is all wrong. I have used Firefox for years, but will not any longer if I can't fix this. Other browsers work so I will be switching to one of them. I have uninstalled & reinstalled Firefox and that didn't work. My date and time settings are correct.

Could you investigate the exception to see why it was needed? This should help identify the underlying problem.

You can examine the certificate for a site where you made an exception in other of two ways:

(1) While viewing the site:

click the padlock in the address bar > More Information > View Certificate

(2) From the Options dialog:

"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced > Certificates mini-tab > "View Certificates" button > Servers tab > click a certificate and use the View button

Check the "Issued by" section to see what you find. For example:

  • Name associated with your security software, such as ESET, BitDefender, Kaspersky, etc.
  • Sendori (indicates unwanted software from Sendori)
  • FiddlerRoot (indicates unwanted software named similarly to BrowserSafeguard, BrowserSafe, SafeGuard)
  • Something else

What do you see?

Resetting and restarting did not solve the problem

I viewed the certificate and it says it was issued by "FiddlerRoot". Sounds like this is not good. So what do I do about it?

Thanks
