Firefox crashing after using ~1.3GB memory with many tab
I'm generally using FF with around ~100 tabs (or more). Whenever FF reaches a certain memory level (somewhere above 1.1GB), it crashes. I have submitted several crash reports, but I didn't get response to any of them. I have upgraded memory from 2GB to 3GB in my computer without any luck. It is terribly annoying to have a crash every so often (every some hour). This is an issue for several months now (don't know when it started, probably like 6 months ago), and it persisted through several FF/Flash upgrades (I don't think it has something to do with Flash though).
Any ideas? If you need more info, just tell me.
Thanks, Peter

How about Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)
- You can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
- Or open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.
Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"
If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article for that.
To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.
When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.
Thank you.
You are running out of memory:
- Available Virtual Memory: 140210176
- System Memory Use Percentage: 91
- Available Physical Memory: 274812928
You will either have to install more memory on the computer or at least increase the page file with a few GB (not sure if this will help).
You can try to close other, unneeded, applications to free up used system memory.
you can also try https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/memory-fox/ https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/suspend-tab/ or https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/unloadtab/ if you still want to run that many tabs
Hey,
I have just created a new one on purpose: 60e8a494-6aa9-445d-9d39-28ea82130623
Total Virtual Memory 2147352576 Available Virtual Memory 142721024 System Memory Use Percentage 85 Available Page File 7646785536 Available Physical Memory 482508800
In this case I'm not running out of memory. Do I guess correctly that on 32 bit the max 2GB limit per process is my problem?
I have loads of more space in the pagefile, so that shouldn't be an issue.
Cheers, Peter
PS: I'll try it in safe mode soon. BTW at work with 64 bit 11.04 Ubuntu I have never crashed, but have the same set of plugins installed.
If all fails, you can try Safe Mode.
You can also run Linux (Ubuntu) and install the same extenstions running a live DVD (or usb, wubi for LTS) and see if its a windows problem.

Took more effort to do it in safe more, but managed: 63980ca4-f137-4a8a-af07-6db182130623
Again Virtual Memory is pretty low.
A nice exception handler would solve the painful part of it.
have you tried using another browser (maybe opera) or a ubuntu live CD?

I'll try it probably later today.
I didn't have any issues with Chrome so far. Although the multi-process nature of Chrome would probably make the issue non existent.
You may also want to run a memory check to be sure that you do not have a bad RAM chip that manifest itself when almost all memory is used up.
I have checked 2 GB memory a few weeks ago, while it was still actively crashing. Since then I have added a brand new 2GB instead of a 1GB module, and I still have the same problems.
Well. I have added the last bits of physical memory to beef it up to 3.5GB and applied the /3GB to user processes.
This was the result: https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/1077b8e7-5e3f-474b-ac8c-5de212130630
It survived for much longer, but still died.
Still didn't try it on Ubuntu.
I am getting daily crashes that are similar, no sign that memory is involved (but I will start monitoring that!) but anytime I have many pages and tabs, say 14 pages and 50 tabs, I start to get crashes. Not doing anything unusual: spamcop email, gmail, ebay, paypal. I have Firefox up to date, minimal plugins and add-ons, MAC OS 10.6.8 with all updates, 2 GB RAM. I have Firefox remember my last pages, it seems worse when those memory files get large in settings. Safe Mode doesn't help. Last 6 crashes:
