How do I get rid of Snap.do that comes up each time I open a new tab? I've tried unstalling but it's still there.

I have uninstalled Snap.do but short of completely erasing all my history, nothing has worked so far. Each time I open a new tab in Firefox, Snap.do is there as the search bar. What a pain!!!

if you don't like to reset, try the following: go to firefox > addons > extensions & remove any suspicious entries (toolbars, things that you have not installed intentionally, don't know what purpose they serve, etc). also go to the windows control panel / programs and remove all toolbars or potentially unwanted software from there and run a full scan of your system with the security software that you have in place and different other tools like the free version of malwarebytes & adwcleaner.

Remove a toolbar that has taken over your Firefox search or home page Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware

afterwards install the search reset addon - it will revert the most common customizations those adware programs do in firefox back to the default: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/searchreset/

Hello,

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.

To Reset Firefox do the following:

  1. Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
  2. Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
  3. Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
  4. Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

Further information can be found in the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article.

Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

Thank you.

Thanks. I was aware of this "fix" but am trying to avoid it. I have SO much in Firefox that may not be considered essential that I don't want risk it. I can close websites but I'm not sure about "extensions" and also concerned about "Preferences" since I'm not sure what all that encompasses. I just don't understand why I can't just Uninstall. It seems to work for everything else I want to get rid of. Or, at the very least, why can't I change the default Snap,do search to something else. If I can't remove it, why can't I replace it. Removal is optimum because I think it's harmful but I just want it gone!

You helped but I think I did something differently. I have uninstalled this a dozen times and it kept on coming back. This time I followed the directions for "Removal after uninstall." When I went back to Firefox, it still came up the first time when I opened the first tab but then I went in, reconfigured my options for search engines and completely removed it from my computer that way. It's GONE. The next time I opened tabs I got a Claro search, went back and removed that from the list as well. Eventually I got back to BLANK tabs (Yea!) and set my Navigation search bar to Google. So far so good. Thanks.

I also couldn’t figure out how to uninstall Snapdo and the instructions in their Support section didn’t help. If it's coming back try to contact them.. I emailed their customer support and they got back to me pretty quickly: [email protected].

Hope this helps!

The easiest way that has worked for me is located here.....

http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/search-web-address-bar

From that link.....

1. In the Location bar, type "about:config" and press Enter.

The about:config "This might void your warranty!" warning page may appear. Click I'll be careful, I promise!, to continue to the about:config page.

2. Do a search for "snap"

3. Right click on the "browser.newtab.url" string

4. Edit the Snap.do link to whatever you want to go to when you open a new tab. For me I used my homepage "google.com"

It is simple. Do a search for any cookies with the word "snap" or "feed" and delete them. (Tools/Option/Privacy). Then close Firefox. Browse to your Firefox profile folder and do delete these 2 files: prefs.js and sessionstore.js. (C:\Users\{username}\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\{profilename}). Now when you start Firefox up again. It will be like the default after installing it, but you still have all your settings, bookmarks, cookies, passwords and history intact. When you open a new tab, "NO MORE SNAPDO" :)
