I'm setting up a new computer, and I'm installing the Firefox browser. I'm at the Mozilla website and have tried downloading the Firefox browser several times. Each times it appears as a very long ago outdated version of this browser. I have uninstalled from my computer and tried again. I don't know what I am doing wrong since I am using the same technique that I used to install every Chrome and every other download I have ever installed on my computer - EVER! What can I do?

Hi Angeladtao,

What makes you think you are downloading an out of date version? Have you gone to Help > About Firefox to see what version is listed there. Did you type this message on your new computer? If so, you are running the latest version of Firefox. Your system details say that you are 9.0.1 which is the latest release of this post.

Well, Matt, I realize that, but my computer screen does not show the 'Firefox' button in the upper left corner. I see the old tool bar menu in its place. I also don't have the other up-dated items that I'm used to with Firefox such as the re-load button and the panorama button. It really seems to resemble 3.6 or a version like that. If you can tell me what I'm doing wrong or how to bring up those features, I'd be delighted. And yes, my computer does indeed register that I have downloaded the updated version. That just adds to my confusion!

The orange Firefox button is there in Firefox 4.0 and newer including the Firefox 9.0.1 you have, if you hide the Menu Bar. Right-click a toolbar and uncheck "Menu Bar".

For the Reload button it could be combined with the Stop button in the right end of the Location (address) bar. With the Customize window open you can place them and other toolbar items wherever you want almost.

Red face. VERY red face. I used to use Firefox before I switched to Chrome for awhile, and I knew about that little trick about turning off the menu bar. Okay, I feel very stupid. Thanks for pointing me to the link on how to hide it. Going away now....
