an occasional need is to ad a text note to a bookmarks folder. For example I want to document when I bought something on ebay. The ebay listing is gone, and ebay doesn't retain the list of what you bought for more than a couple of years. I created a folder that contains bookmarks to pages relevant to the purchased item; but I can't link to the original listing, or the ebay page. I'd like to be able to add a note with a few details re the purchase. Is there an add on that can do that? Most extensions about firefox bookmark notes add a note feature to bookmarks themselves.

Addons to use as what your asking would be varying depending on user preferences and since this is for Firefox browser end user help one can't really recommend or tell another user what Addon to use. You'll want to go to the Firefox Addon page and search for one that is close to what your asking and read the user review to see if it matches what your looking for.

I've looked on the add-ons page, I noted that. There is no reason another user couldn't direct me to a note add-on that they use or know of, even if it doesn't work out for me. But thanks for the reply <g>.

In fact this could be another use for the firefox account. I can't use sync any more (it started messing things up), but a feature like this that is associated with my firefox account would be great. The document/note would be a page stored on the firefox server, and as a result there would be no need to make any special provision to the browser itself. It'd be just another page that has a bookmark, but only I could get to it.
