Hello. I often want to print the content on a web site, typically newspaper article. I only get to print the beginning of the website, typically 2 A-4 pages. I often want to create a pdf file of a web site, typically a newspaper article. I then use the built-in feature for this in firefox by selecting print and then choosing to create pdf file. Firefox then creates a pdf file just like when printing, that is, only the beginning of the web page / article. How can I fix this? When using the same features in apple safari, there are no problems. Can this be fixed in future firefox updates?

Hi Andy, do you want to share a link to a page where you have this problem?

I assume you are on Mac, and using the PDF feature integrated into the Print dialog. That feature would be subject to any problem Firefox would have when printing to paper.

Unfortunately, there are some website layouts that Firefox does not print correctly. Certain style rules cause Firefox to treat a block of content as "unbreakable" and it just runs off the bottom of the page instead of being broken into separate pages.

I created an add-on to help with this problem, you can use a toolbar button to inject layout changes that make it easier for Firefox to insert page breaks. It's also integrated into the right-click content menu (or on Mac, Ctrl+click).

If you try it, let me know if it helps with the problem site(s): https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/printable-the-print-doctor/

AFAIK the firefox pdf is a basic reader only. As to print issue that could also be a printer formatting issue as well. Did you check the print preview or print another pdf to see what happens on the output?

Hello. Thanks for your quick and easy answer!

Can confirm your assumptions. I'm using Firefox latest version on a mac. And as you mentioned the possibility of getting pdf / format by the integrated solution in firefox browser. I've downloaded the extension on your link. AND IT WORKS! Have tried this solution several times and one of the two options works on all my attempts. Of course, printing and pdf files are not perfect, but all text and image come with!

Would also like to mention to other forum users that an okay method is to choose "reading view" in the browser if you just need the text.

Hi corc337, Firefox doesn't include a built-in PDF option on Windows or Linux, it's a Mac thing. But you have some choices:

(1) In the Print dialog, select the Windows 10 printer named "Microsoft Print to PDF"

(2) Install a third party PDF printer, such as this open source program:

https://www.pdfforge.org/pdfcreator

(3) Install an add-on inside Firefox

These can work in two different ways:

(A) Use a "PDF this tab" command that creates a PDF similar to what you see in Firefox's Print Preview screen.

For example: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/save-pdf/

(B) Use a web-based service to perform the conversion.

This can have privacy implications for pages that contain sensitive information.

Hopefully one of those will work for you.
