I installed Firefox 18 on 1/9/2013. I am running on an HP quad processor box with Windows 7 (current), 64 bit addressing and 2 GB of memory. Extensions: HTTPS Everywhere 312, Norton toolbar and protection. Plugins: 11.

Firefox crashes when I close a tab and when I close the session. I have sent crash information at time of crash.

The problem has been solved. Run Norton Internet Security LiveUpdate. Install the patch from Norton. The patch works for me on both my User authority account and my Administration authority account. Please report any problems related to the patch. Otherwise, this problem can be closed as solved. Those users who have altered Norton Internet Security in order to circumvent this problem should restore NIS to its proper state.

I had tried everything. I had more problems after uninstalling firefox and reinstalling. I ended up uninstalling again and running Norton power erase. Then did a fresh install, of course I lost all of my stuff that was saved in firefox. When I say fresh, I mean fresh start of everything! ARG! LOL! That's what worked for me finally. I never have liked IE!

Ran and installed Norton Updates, this had no effect...problem remains

The crashes are caused by Norton software like Norton Confidential or Norton Identity Safe as can be seen by the coFFPlgn.dll or couictlr.dll in the crash signature of the crash report (bug 783369).

Try to update all Norton components to see if that helps.

Otherwise try to disable Norton extensions/toolbars in Firefox.

Just wandering regarding those who are still having problems. Have they updated to the current software version. When this problem first began, the first thing I did was upgrade to the current version of Norton Internet Security. Live Update does not do that. It must be done manually. Then when the fix came out I ran Live Update to get the fix.

By the way the toolbar version I have now is: 2013.2.4.2.

If a person has an older toolbar version they probably have not upgraded to the current software version.

I updated my Norton software and it seems to have fixed the issue.

Here's the web page for finding out if your version is up to date. http://updatecenter.norton.com/ It sends you an 888 KB Application file that you run, named: AutoDetectPkg I was logged on to my Norton account, which may, or may not, be how you access that info.

Running the App. returned the following: Your Norton product version is up-to-date. You already have the latest version of your Norton product installed on your computer.

By the way, your version of Norton 360 is found by opening: Norton (icon) > Support > About

The latest version is 20.2.1.22

Yes, that's the version I have. Thanks.

I have done the same but the problem still exists.

Why?

It is getting to the point that I'll have to stop using Firefox but really don't want to return to IE!
