At the very top left of my screen where the firefox logo is, a succession of Japanese letters occurs. It changes when I change web pages as if it's labeling my pages in Japanese or something. My selected language is English so I don't understand what is happening.

It is possible that Firefox uses UTF-16 encoding for that text in the title bar instead of UTF-8.

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
