Email not syncing despte having correct settings and password.
Kia Ora Koutou from Aotearoa New Zealand.
After several hours of sheer frustration, including reading a significant number of posts I am still without result.
Thunderbird keeps asking for my my password for both my SMTP and IMAP settings despite all of these being correct.
I have checked with my domain and email provider (mail.1stdomains.co.nz) and they inform me that it appears to be a thunderbird settings.
Checking the thunderbird settings they are correct including passwords, however, the mail client just refuses to download the mail providing a dialogue box with "login to account "<PRIVACY>" failed. Enter new password, Cancel, Retry.
Is there some way to fix this error?

Nothing? Nothing at all?
Oh dear. Strange....
Most probably stop your antivirus from scanning mail and crashing in the process in the background, or actively refusing internet access because oyu have a new version. But based on the information you have supplied all I can do is guess.
For us to better investigate this issue, we will need some more information.
Could you please do the following?
- Open the menu > Help > Troubleshooting Information, then click Copy text to Clipboard.
- Go to https://pastebin.mozilla.org/, paste the clipboard by right clicking in the large text area, select paste from the menu, change the retention period to expire in 28 days, use the Paste Snippet button to create a page containing your info, then copy the resulting URL (address) of the page created.
- Open a reply to this post, and paste the URL to your troubleshooting information you just copied.
- Please also provide results for the following test on your system
- Does Thunderbird work as expected in Thunderbird troubleshooting mode?
- Does Thunderbird work as expected with your OS started in safe mode with Networking. Instructions for each operating system: Windows 10/11, Windows 8, Windows 7, OSX

Unfortunately, I am not using windows as the operating system.
Please supply information because we cannot guess.
What OS are you using ? Where did you get Thunderbird? flatpak? Official website : https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/all/ ? Or somewhere else, but tell us where you got it from.
The information we need is in Thunderbird and it's located : Help > Troubleshooting Information If for some reason you do not see a 'Copy text to clipboard' button in top left area then Copy sections as specific below and paste the data into this forum question.
Under 'Application Basics' section Copy and paste the following data:
- Version, Build ID, update channel,
Under 'Mail and News Accounts' We need to know exactly what Thunderbird says it's using for account settings. Obviously not the password. Copy all the data and post it into this question.
Under 'Addons' Copy all data and post info into this question.
Under 'Security Software' Copy all data and post info into this question.
Do you use a VPN? Some Linux based systems have discovered a VPN being enabled. Some people using Anti-Virus products have discovered a VPN being auto enabled.
Disable/switch off any VPN because many servers think someone is trying to hack your account so they block access to server.
Do you use a product such as Apache Xamph? Many people may use such software if they manage a website. This product uses localhost, so you may need to switch it off whilst setting up some accounts especially those that use Oauth eg: accounts hosted on gmail, yahoo or outlook servers.

Please check to see if you have a VPN switched on or one that has been enabled on bootup. This link has some info on how to check it. https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?t=365873
Hi all, I have no proxy, I think it is a error in the was Thunderbird gives permissions to the password file maybe...? Could be wrong, noobing it here.
Is there anything else I could do?
I'm wondering if this issue has occured due to issues with the server. I did find this report:

Dear 1st Domains customers,
Due to a significant hardware failure around 9am this morning, our hosted exchange service is currently unavailable. Work is underway to recover the service, which we expect to be restored later this afternoon. There should be no significant loss of data, excepting the period where the server was unavailable.
Our sincere apologies for the disruption.
Kind regards, 1st Domains Hosting
It has been months, this program does not solve any problems with regard to this.
Interestingly enough, Thunderbird has caused such a problem with being unable to send email.
I now have to author all my email in webmail services which is taking me hours of my time.
I have lost money and the ability to respond in a sound and timely manner through missed emails and I think it all comes down to the fact that thunderbird mail will not save the passwords correctly.
Please, for the love of god, don't make me go back to Microsoft.
This appears to be an ubuntu derived Linux distribution. Ubuntu now use snap packages for applications which locks you into a sand box. I wonder if your issue is the sandboxing is causing you issues.
https://snapcraft.io/docs/security-sandboxing
Perhaps try replacing your snap package with a flatpak build by the Thunderbird team and see if you still have the same issues. https://flathub.org/apps/org.mozilla.Thunderbird
Kia Ora Koutou,
With regard to the solution offered

This did not work at all.
It appears to repeat the same problems and it won't even download the email.
It continuously asks for passwords calming that the passwords are not accepted by the server. It will not update the passwords when re input checking each movement and keypress.
I ran the password experiment exactly 103 times and it took four (4) hours.
In the words of fisher I am losing it. I don't know what else to do. Every other computer with Linux Mint install I have does not have this issue. Its just my profile for some reason.
How the hell will linux ever take over from microsoft when it is this buggy?
I guess there are no solutions to this problem.
