Hi there. Strange problem with my parents Thunderbird.

When replying to an email, the recipient receives it just fine. When i go to "write" and type in the address, the email never arrives at the other end.

Thunderbird goes through the motions, and the email appears in the sent folder with no error messages, but simply never arrives at it's destination.

I've checked and re-checked all smtp and pop3 settings. Obviously replies would not be sending were that the problem anyway. I have also removed all these settings and re-entered them just in case. I have tried multiple addresses both typing in the addresses and from the address book in case that was corrupted, still no luck. I have disabled avast completely for tests and still nothing.

Any suggestions most welcome.

Thanks for your time, Greg

Assuming the email address is correct............ If the receiving mailbox was full then you would probably get a mailor daemon email saying it could not be delivered. Some servers would reject email if it did not pass their spam control and you may also get a message from server stating this.

But this sounds like those emails are being delivered.

If parents are using an email client like Thunderbird or Outlook and using a POP mail account set up, then they would only see emails received into the server Inbox as Pop mail accounts can only access and download from server Inbox. So if the server is filtering emails and putting them in the server Spam folder then parents will not see them unless they logged on to the webmail account via a browser and viewed the server Spam folder. If emails are in that folder they need to select those emails and select the Not Spam option to train server spam filter.

It is worth checking out.

Hi Toad-Hall. Thanks for your suggestions.

The email account in question is with simplereg and i have set it up for pop3 use. All server settings have been checked and re-checked. This was also a problem that occured suddenly, when previously everything had been working fine on the same settings.

I'm testing to my own email addresses (4 in total) with the same results. 1 hotmail, 1 gmail, and 2 other simplereg accounts. None are full.

I have checked the problem email's webmail and it is completely empty, with nothing in the spam folder.

I am really confused on this one.

I forgot to mention -

They use 2 emails inside thunderbird. The first is a blueyonder (virgin media) email and works perfectly. The second is the problematic simplereg address.

What port is the simplereg account using for the outgoing server? What Connection Security is it using? SSL/TLS ? What authorisation method is it using: Password ?

For parents email address what is after the @? So what server are they using?
