I suggested you tell Thunderbird not to move messages it thinks are junk to a junk folder. You claim you did that but yet they are getting moved. This is a good indication that Thunderbird is not moving them.

I gave you articles telling you how to go directly to the outlook.com site and adjust their junk filters. You have never bothered to reply if you went there to investigate or report results if you did. You just want to keep repeating you only use Thunderbird. All your inbound messages go though your providers servers and filters before Thunderbird is even involved.

What else do you expect someone to tell you?

Try this. Turn Thunderbirds junk controls off completely. Report the results.

You can bash me all you want but all volunteers get frustrated when someone asking for help thinks they know better and do not try what is suggested. So have a wonderful day.

Thunderbird does not decide if mail is Spam. It does not used the word Spam. It does not use a folder labeled Spam. Your email provider might so go to their web mail site and look for spam settings.

Thunderbird does mark items as Junk. By default it places a Junk icon in the Junk column and leaves it in the Inbox. You can go to Junk controls and have it moved to a Junk folder but that is optional and you would have configured that.

If you decide you are talking about Junk instead of spam then come back.

Thunderbirds junk filter takes a while to train and even then it makes mistakes. Here is the info page for junk controls. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/thunderbird-and-junk-spam-messages

Are these emails from a consistent address where you can add it to your address book and tell Thunderbird to not mark messages from addresses in your address book?

more options

i assume ebay address is consistent and its in address book. it has been trained for a long time

i suppose i could tell it not to mark messages from addresses in my address book, but shouldn't it pay attention to repeated telling it the mail is not junk? thanks

more options

Maybe it should. I do not know. My understanding is that other than checking the address book for a white list of addresses, if you use that option, it does not pay attention to addresses when filtering. Spammers rarely use the same address and even more rare than that use one that belongs to them. Here is another article about junk controls. It says for the filter to work best you also need to mark Not Junk messages.

Quote: Bayesian filtering requires at least 100 bad messages be marked as spam and 100 good messages as not junk to function. To work best, it needs a few hundred of each marked. If you mark a thousand spam messages but do not mark legitimate messages, or very few, it won't work well. It's best to mark different types of messages good and bad - marking 500 messages from the same source is not as good as marking 500 messages from different people.

just looked and address books are whitelisted. whats the Bayesian thing, is it how TB learns?

just found that ebay messages even from same ebay users address are still junk , even though they're in address book with is a white list effectively

seems ive made all adjustments short of an actual filter, i dont really want to make one as id rather find the cause of this problem, i think it must be a user setting, have never had this problem in before. i

it only started since around the time i had to switch from my isp to outlook.com for email services. would someone pls confirm that the problem can not be down to outlook.com [or could it?]

any more ideas appreciated

Outlook seems to use a Junk folder also. https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Overview-of-the-Junk-Email-Filter-5ae3ea8e-cf41-4fa0-b02a-3b96e21de089

I say it because the article I linked to says it over and over. Did you read it? That is why I asked you to change the settings in Thunderbird. If Thunderbird leaves its junk items in your inbox and items still go to the junk folder it is not Thunderbird putting them there.

i see, yes i read quickly will go back to it now. it ts very appreciated to know the reasons behind the advice will be back when i get results

Here is another article that talks about the junk settings when you log into your account directly at outlook.com https://support.teamsideline.com/hc/en-us/articles/208531146-Emails-are-going-to-junk-folder-not-inbox

thanx for digging out that article, much does not apply to me so not too much to check

considering i use only TB to view mail how should this setting be?: "Choose Don't forward, if you have enabled email forwarding for you to receive incoming emails to your Inbox Folder."

thanx

You do not get it so I will stop wasting my time.

And no you do not just use Thunderbird. Thunderbird is the email client you selected to use on your computer. You stated you get your email from the provider outlook.com. The article explains how to configure their spam filters from their webmail page. You know, the filters the mail goes through before it gets to Thunderbird and probably the ones moving your eBay messages. You can contact Microsoft for help with their system if you cannot understand the instructions I took the time to find for you. Good luck and goodbye.
