Why does the new firefox 57 build use more than 50 percent of my cpu and is slow and laggy. I disabled all add ons, and I reinstalled Firefox
I downloaded the new Firefox 57 update and have been experiencing lots of lag, slowness, freezing, and really high cpu usage. I have uninstalled all add ons, reinstalled firefox and cant figure out whats wrong
In taske manager it shows Firefox (6). I don't know what the 6 is for next to firefox. Firefox has just been really slow and glitchy since i updated

Yes, 6 is about right if have a 6 core chip. you can change a little under : Tools --> Options --> General --> Performance Untick Use Recommended Settings and you will have a option to reduce the Content Process.
While there untick Use Hardware Acceleration... See if runs better. If still issues we can try other things.
Myself & Firefox's running Processes using 998MB of ram and was as high as 1.5MB You can monitor yours in the Windows Task Manager if not already doing so.
So if your running way, way higher into the gigs, let us know.
Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.
Hey thanks for the fast reply
Didn't know 6 was for the amount of cores i had. I have changed hardware acceleration on and off before, and there was no difference.
My Firefox Ram is always 1.2 or higher when I'm looking at task manager. right now it's 1,456.3 MB
The cpu usage seems to have come down a lot so ill continue monitoring the situation, and if im still having problems ill narrow it down and ask for help again. To add, when I change tabs or open new ones the cpu usage shoots up to 60percent+ I don't remember noticing that high cpu usage on the older version
Ty your the response

I seem to be the only one having problems with the new firefox, i can't find people online with the same issues as me.
My cpu usage and Mem usage is higher, and my Gpu is at max clock speeds when using just firefox causing the fan to turn on. I never had any of this issues with the previous versions.
Sometimes it works fine then it just starts lagging, freezing etc. It's getting really frustrating
Just for reference, what operating system are you running? What general specs are you running (RAM, Gpu clockspeed and core count)?
Win 10 ver 1709 with the 2017-11 cumulative update 12gb Ram ddr3 Msi Rx 470 with the clockspeed being 1242 which is the stock speed cpu is i 7 4790s with 4 cores i think?
The heating of the GPU i think was a unrelated problem, after doing a shutdown the problem doesn't seem to be happening anymore
I'm still having problems with lagging, and freezing. Sometimes it works fine and sometimes the cpu usage shoots up to like 60-70 percent just for firefox. The Memory usage seems high too. I can't really compare it to the previous version because i never really had any issue so i never really needed to monitor those process.
It's using more than double the memory of Chrome and more Cpu, but chrome is running smooth and i have to use that now. I love firefox and has been my go to browser for years that's why this is so annoying lol.
This morning before the update it was working fine and after the update im having issues and it seems I'm the only one having issues a the momemnt
I also notice that when i go to open up task manager with Firefox running it will lag so bad i have to do a hard reset on my pc

VRDVCgamer was a wanderer and should not have been posting.
Since last week info has come further. Should revere what I told you before, for now.
And give this a try : Go to the Firefox 3 Bar Menu --> Help ? --> Troubleshooting Information Page and take a look in the Accessibility section if accessibility is set to "true" there. if yes, go to the Firefox 3 Bar Menu --> Options --> Privacy & Security panel and under Permissions check the setting to Prevent Accessibility Services from accessing your browser.
