How do I save my things from Internet Explorer over to Firefox?

I was having a lot of trouble with Internet Explorer. I now have Firefox. How do I move all of my items from Internet Explorer to Firefox? I understand there is a function in Firebox to import the bookmarks, favorites.

See:

You can import this data in the Bookmarks Manager (Library).

  • Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks > Import & Backup : Import Data from Another Browser

I cannot find Library anywhere on my computer. I am also getting Script Error on my messages and facebook. I want to save my favorites from Google too.

Okay, let's take these one at a time.

I cannot find Library anywhere on my computer.

The Library dialog is a feature of Firefox. You can open it using either of these:

  • Ctrl+Shift+b
  • bookmarks button > Show All Bookmarks

Please see the support article linked by cor-el for the details on importing data from other browsers.

I want to save my favorites from Google too.

Do you mean Google Chrome? The approach to importing data from Chrome is the same as for IE.

You can click the "Show your bookmarks" button next to the star on the Navigation Toolbar to open the Bookmarks Manager (Show All Bookmarks).

I am also getting Script Error on my messages and facebook.

We do have a general support article on that problem: Warning Unresponsive script - What it means and how to fix it.

However, we may be able to point you in the right direction with a little more information.

Can you make a note of the script address listed on the error(s)? For example, it might start with http or https and mention a specific website, or it might start with chrome or resource, indicating a script on your computer that is part of Firefox or an add-on.

Meanwhile, common causes of script error dialogs that you can try to knock out are:

  • Skype Click-to-Call extension
  • Flash player plugin Protected Mode feature

Here are the steps for those:

Disabling an Extension

You can manage extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions. Then on the right side, if you have Skype extension, Disable them. Also disable (or remove) anything you don't recognize. Firefox doesn't come with any extensions, but it might have discovered some on your system when it was installed. Everything here is optional.

Often a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.

Flash Protected Mode

Another common cause of unresponsive script errors on Windows Vista and higher is the protected mode feature of the Flash player plugin. That feature has security benefits, but seems to have serious compatibility issues on some systems. You can disable it using the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Plugins. On the right side, find "Shockwave Flash" and click the More link. Then uncheck the box for "Enable Adobe Flash protected mode" and try that for a day to see whether it helps.
