Normally the tab I don't have open tints slightly gray to show it is inactive. lately if I open a tab and switch to another one, Firefox sometimes leaves the first tab looking like it is active. It's a nuisance because I have to read each tab to know which one I am using. I have a screenshot to give an example:

The IMDb tab looks like a normal inactive tab, but the Youtube, Facebook, and Cracked tabs look like active tabs.

I'm pretty sure it happened recently after I followed the instructions in this article:

I think it has something to do with another version of Firefox being installed within the Windows Emulator. I tried restarting Firefox with all add-ons disabled and the problem still occurred. It happens no matter what personas theme I use also.

Are you sure that this isn't caused by the persona that you have installed?

Yeah, I'm absolutely sure it's not the persona. I've used this persona for over a year at least, but the problem just started recently (like last few days). I also tried using different personas including the default (so none at all) and the problem still occurred.

Maybe it is caused by an extension that has updated.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do not click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.

It happens with the default theme, in safe mode, and in safe mode with the default theme.

Can you attach a screenshot of how it looks without a persona?

This is a screenshot of how it looks in Linux with a clean profile.

I can't seem to replicate the exact issue in safe mode with the default theme, but it's very similar:

This time the active tab will tint gray like it is inactive rather than inactive not tinting gray. An issue that I've also been having that might be related is images sometimes display as black boxes. Most images and almost every site load properly, but some sites like Amazon, Reddit, and imgur do not. They display for an instant when I reload the page, but then they turn back into black boxes. Keep in mind this is all in Safe Mode.

When an image doesn't load, I can save it to my computer and it displays normally.

Looks that it is caused by the black background from your Linux theme that bleeds through.
