I have just created and tried to connect a new gmail address required by my job. However, although all the settings are exactly like my other gmail addresses I keep getting the error of "Authentication failure when connecting to imap.gmail.com." Any help would be most welcome. I have been a user of Thunderbird for years and really like it. Oh, and I am running the newest version, I have just checked that.

I got a bit further this morning, but now I got the following error message: "Login to server smtp.gmail.com with username [email protected] failed."

I was able to get a message in for that email address but this is what I get when I try and send one. The password is correct and the authentication method is the same as my other emails from gmail.

"Sending of the message failed. Unable to authenticate to Outgoing server (SMTP) smtp.gmail.com. Please check the password and verify the 'Authentication method' in 'Account Settings | Outgoing server (SMTP)'."

I have switched to Mailbird. Thanks anyway.

You lost our ability to follow your progress when you posted "I got a bit further" without sharing the details. We're all volunteers here and don't have time to keep begging people to share details. But that's irrelevant. I'm glad you're happy with Mailbird. Getting email is the goal.

David, by the time I posted that, I was so tired and frustrated that I really wasn't thinking straight. Thank you for replying though. As I said, I have started using another software program.
