I have been using Thunderbird for years with Gmail and two other Outlook accounts. Since the last update I have been unable to access my Gmail account and have been getting multiple error messages. I tried updating the IMAP settings as instructed by Google but this did not work. Chosen solution

I finally solved the issues by going to "Gmail Help" and changing the server settings (again...) Now Gmail is slowly backing up and compacting the folders. At least I have access again! Something changed with Gmail and Thunderbird settings to cause this in the last update.

what are the error messages?

more options

"Unable to connect to your IMAP server. You may have exceeded the number of attempts..." there's more but I am unable to get a screen shot or copy before the message disappears...

I am able to get into Gmail online and on my phone app so the trouble isn't there.

The old settings wouldn't even let me connect at all.
