Is there anyone at Mozila Thunderbird who can call me or who I can call to sort this out. I have been using this email system for many years. I have been using it on this laptop for over a year without any problems. Today I used it to send and receive emails ok, but just one hour ago it stopped working for no apparent reason. I can still send and receive emails on my andriod phone but not on my laptop, I keep getting the error message Login to Account "my [email protected]" failed and Login to server imap.googlemail.com with username [email protected] failed.

When sending emails out I get error message Login to server smtp.googlemail.com with username [email protected] failed. and it asks me to Retry or Enter New Password or Cancel. I tried entering the password but to no avail. If I then click on "Cancel" I get the following error message "Sending of the message failed. Failed due to unexpected error 80004005. No description is available. The message could not be sent using Outgoing server (SMTP) smtp.googlemail.com for an unknown reason. Please verify that your Outgoing server (SMTP) settings are correct and try again."

Hello. I was having the same issue. I found that by changing the server setting from smtp.googlemail.com to smtp.gmail.com took care of my issue. You may be prompted to reenter your password. Hope that helps.

For some unknown reason I did nothing. I was about to follow your instruction mchicca1 but before I could do anything the dam thing is now working perfectly. Must have been some bug in the system with overuse, who knows. Anyway thanks for your caring assitance. Much appreciated.

I thought I would post my solution to the error message below in case it helps anyone:

"Sending of the message failed. Failed due to unexpected error 80004005. No description is available. The message could not be sent using Outgoing server (SMTP) smtp.gmail.com for an unknown reason. Please verify that your Outgoing server (SMTP) settings are correct and try again."

I have an outlook email account with GoDaddy, and I suddenly lost the ability to send (but not receive) email after updating my older version of Thunderbird. My SMTP settings were those that have been posted in other threads:

smtp.office365.com port 587 encryption STARTTLS

I found I had to delete my outgoing smtp settings and recreate them using "Authentication Method: Any secure method (deprecated)" and NOT with STARTTLS in order to get back my ability to send email. For some reason, one of the more recent updates to Thunderbird disabled my ability to send email. I'm not sure which update, as I usually do not update my Thunderbird but 2-3 times per year, not every time an update is available. But the STARTTLS no longer works for outlook under office365.

Please note that I also tried the OAuth2 encryption setting, but that did not work with outlook on office 365.

Hope this information helps someone else dealing with this problem and outlook/office365 email.
