Firefox Latest Update (v69) Prevents Facebook Games From Loading

With this latest update (this also happened with the previous update with Firefox 68), Firefox 69 (Quantum) refuses to load facebook games. The only thing that displays is a black screen and it just hangs. Does anyone have a fix for this?

This problem happened when Firefox 68 (Quantum) was released as well. It was eventually fixed but this is irritating that Firefox updates are rolled out with bugs and glitches included. I'm just looking for a fix as I had to remove FF 69 and install a previous version.

Do you have any links related to the Firefox 68 problem that could provide more information?

Firefox 69 no longer stores your Flash activation permissions beyond the current session, so keep an eye on the left end of the address bar when games do not start automatically. See: Why do I have to click to activate plugins?

There might also be data sharing issues between Facebook and the framed game website. There's a long thread about Scrabble not starting for at least 3 users since Firefox 68.0.2. That seems to be related to the game site not being able to access the users' FB data for some reason. However, I don't think it leads to a black screen, so that may be something different.

And to check whether custom settings or add-ons could be a factor, when you are back on Firefox 69, if you could:

New Profile Test

This takes about 3 minutes, plus the time to test the game(s).

Inside Firefox, type or paste about:profiles in the address bar and press Enter/Return to load it.

Click the "Create a New Profile" button, then click Next. Assign a name like Sept2019, ignore the option to relocate the profile folder, and click the Finish button.

After creating the profile, scroll down to it and click the Launch profile in new browser button.

Firefox should open a new window that looks like a brand new, uncustomized installation. (Your existing Firefox window(s) should not be affected.) Please ignore any tabs enticing you to connect to a Sync account or to activate extensions found on your system so we can get a clean test.

Do the games start in the new profile?

When you are done with the experiment, you can close the extra window without affecting your regular Firefox profile. (Sept2019 will remain available for future testing.)

The System Details list shows a Firefox 64 version. Did you downgrade Firefox to this version or is this another computer?

I had to completely remove FF 69 and reinstall an old version. I just thought that someone might have discovered a fix for it. FF has become so bloated that there seem to be glitches with each new release.

Firefox SUCKS!!! Royally. They release these updates that disrupt us from using the very websites that we use Firefox to browse. Mozilla is getting worse than Microsoft ever was. At least we don't have to worry about Internet Explorer breaking down and preventing us from using websites with each new release.

Leave it to this community not to come up with a fix for this crappy web-browser. I'm going back to Internet Explorer and Opera.

Does that mean the new profile didn't work, either?

Do you want to mention what game it was? So far, I've seen reports about:

  • Scrabble -- reloads over and over, can't sign in
  • Words with Friends -- black screen

New profile doesn't work either. I had to resort to using Opera to access facebook games because FF 70 won't. I know that Mozilla has been trying to get away from Flash and Java and it was working fine with FF up through 69. It was FF 70 that stopped FB Games from loading. What i mean is that I have Flash installed and when the games try to load, it gets stuck at a solid black screen.

Okay, just to make sure I understand what is affected:

  • Current release, Firefox 69, working
  • Beta version, Firefox 70, black screen during load

I do not enable apps on my FB account for privacy reasons, so I can't test any games myself. However, perhaps another volunteer can try it out.

Words with Friends? Could be Tracking Protection. See: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1268424

I guess I should have explained further. The only game I play is Star Trek; Alien Domain. When I click on the server name, the screen starts to load but stops at an all black screen. I think Mozilla might release a fix for it at a later date. But, at least half of my problem is resolved. I only posted this because I thought someone might have a quick fix for this but I'm fine using Opera to load the game.
