How do I edit what appears in the browser's title bar? (I don't people to see my gmail address when on the gmail tab)

more options

I often use my laptop when I'm in a coffee shop. I often have my Firefox on my gmail.com tab.

The problem is that the title bar gives away my email address:

Inbox - [email protected] - Gmail - Mozilla Firefox or

Hello! - [email protected] - Gmail - Mozilla Firefox

or

Search results - [email protected] - Gmail - Mozilla Firefox

How can I hide the email address from the Title Bar?

Chosen solution

As a workaround, I created a user script that runs on Gmail, Outlook.com, Office365, and Yahoo mail. It monitors the page title and removes the email address (it actually removes anything containing the @ character). Example screenshot attached.

You can install user scripts and apply them to sites using one of these extensions, but I only tested in the first one:

The script is posted here:

If you try it, I look forward to your comments.

Hi,

First of all : this may not be a coffee shop, but it's a public forum - you should remove your email addresses from your post .....

Maybe you'd like to give this add-on a try :

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/rename-tab-title/

I hope that will work for you  !

Apparently it has taken a long time to add an on/off option for the title bar on Linux. For some reason, it's also called Client Side Decoration or CSD. That is scheduled for Firefox 59, which is currently in beta testing, but I haven't been keeping up with how it's going. As a Windows person, I'm not sure how to interpret the discussions...

Google search for "title bar" firefox-59 linux covering 1/1/2018 through 3/31/2018:

https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-ab&tbs=cdr%3A1%2Ccd_min%3A1%2F1%2F2018%2Ccd_max%3A3%2F31%2F2018&q=%22title+bar%22+firefox-59+linux

So I don't know whether it's worth trying the beta or not...
