I need to use thunderbird to store my email archive and not be live at any time. I need to have these emails from the past stored on thunderbird but not as a live email account on thunderbird. I created the account and added the gmail account I use regularly and the one I need to archive

I'd move the messages I want to keep into another account, either a working account or the Local Folders account in Thunderbird. It comes down to whether or not you need to access these older messages on another computer or a phone or tablet. If not, then Local Folders will be faster and more efficient.

Having done all that I'd then remove the old account from Thunderbird.
