Every time that I restart Thunderbird, a new folder is created in Archives for 2014. I have no messages at all anywhere in Thunderbird for this year and nothing is created for other years (2015 and 2016). In account settings, I have not checked the box in "Copies and Folders" for the option to keep message archives, but if I do, the archive option is to keep them in a single folder and not by year. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Does this account use IMAP? If so, have you tried removing the offending folder via the email provider's website?

Thanks for the answer, but I am not using IMAP and there is no archive on the email provider's website.
