I have a Mac OS-X10.9.4. with firefox 34. Each time I open ff, I am asked to download 35. And I do, and restart firefox. But each time I am back to version 34, and get asked again, and again... 35 will download (shows up in my downloads folder), click on it to load, seems to work, but still I am back at 34. 35 doesn't show up anywhere, in Applications folder.

Chosen solution

Hello miekev, please try to download and install firefox, do the next steps:

1. Download a copy of the latest firefox from http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html (full dmg package)

2. Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean install.

3. Install the version that you have downloaded.

Do not select to remove your personal data, your profile data is stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder, so you won't lose your bookmarks or other personal data.

I did succeed ahead of receiving a reply. But it seems it was because of one small obscure step: after downloading and dragging the orange logo into the applications folder, I was apparently also supposed to press Control AND click on the blue window and then click 'eject Firefox'. Seems strangely obscure but I now have FF35 and won't be bothered by requests to upgrade. Thank you.
