It would be useful if you could supply some information.

re: sent, archives & template folders are all light grey What OS do you use? What version of thunderbird ? what type of account are you talking about ...POP or IMAP?

For IMAP:

First check those folders are subscribed to see. right click on Inbox folder and click on 'subscribe' to see list. Confirm the folders are selected.

Then check Account Settings are set up correctly: note; for gmail account - see lower down.

Tools > Account Settings > Copies & Folders for the IMAP account when sending messages automatically:

  • Select: 'Place a copy in'
  • Select: 'Other' and 'Sent' on imap mail account (the server Sent folder might be called something similar eg: Sent Items)

Message Archives:

  • Select:' Keep message archives in:'
  • Select: 'Other' and 'Archives on imap mail account'

Drafts and Templates:

  • Select: 'Other' and 'drafts folder on imap mail account
  • Select: 'Other' and 'Templates folder on imap mail account'

then check the Junk options

  • click on 'Junk Settings' for the imap mail account
  • Select: 'Move new junk messages to:'
  • Select: 'other' and 'Junk folder on imap mail account'
  • Click on 'OK' to save changes to Account Settings.

Is this a gmail imap account? If yes, then make following changes: On the Copies & Folders tab in the When sending messages, automatically section:

  • Place a copy in > leave unchecked

On the Copies & Folders tab in the Drafts and Templates section: Keep message drafts in:

  • Select: 'Other' and [Your Gmail address] > [Gmail] > Drafts / Templates as appropriate.

On the Junk Settings tab

  • Enable adaptive junk mail controls > leave unchecked

click on OK when done.

Confirm settings are now correct and tell me if this is a gmail account. Please report back on results.

I'm a newbie and can't figure out how to post to Thunderbird, but this is close to my problem.

Used Thunderbird about three years. Periodically I couldn't delete messages, save to Sent, filters wouldn't work. I would delete the *.msf files. Indexes would be rebuilt and everything would be fine.

I'm using Windows 8.1 on a Toshiba Satellite with 6 gigs memory.

All of a sudden, I can't delete, my filters don't work, and save to Sent doesn't work. And send from Outbox doesn't work, although I can change the From email address and send normally.

I can still send and receive emails with no problem.

I've deleted all the *.msf files. Compacted folders. Deleted trash and trash.msf folders. I didn't delete trash.sbd folders, however. I deleted global.sqlite.

Nothing seems to work.

Help!

I apologize if this is the wrong place to post and humbly ask your direction in the proper way to go about it.

Thanks for any insight.

Redeleted all msf files and trash files, and this time it worked.

Go figure.

Sorry to disturb you.
