I created another account with an alternate email address in order to create this message. The problem seems to be that when I created my original account, the use of my email address as a user name was allowed (except that the number of characters allowed cut off the "m" of "com"). The username returned in the response to "forgot username" was the partial email address, which does not pass current edits.

I can live with this, but it offends my desire for correctness and consistency.

I will ask my original question in another post.

The length of your email address is not too long.

Right click on mail account name in Folder Pane and select 'Settings'

Make sure 'Account name' = Type full correct email address. Where it says 'Email Address' = Type full correct email address.

Bottom Left column Click on 'Outgoing Server (SMTP) select the server click on 'Edit' button User Name = Type full email address click on OK

Then click on OK to save changes to accounts. close and restart Thunderbird.
