Mozilla just forced an update to Firefox 31 on my MacBook Pro. When I call up Google Maps it comes up normally but then in a second or two appears severely distorted making it totally useless.

I emptied the cash but problem did not improve.

By distorted, is it a scaling issue, like tiles 4x the normal size but with bad resolution, or something non-proportional, wavy, missing pixels, etc.? You can attach a screenshot to a reply if that would help us visualize it better.

You may have zoomed the page(s) by accident.
Reset the page zoom on pages that cause problems.

  • View > Zoom > Reset (Ctrl/Command+0 (zero))

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window
