When logged onto Outlook.com the main page will reload itself over and over even after I've opened an email. If the email contains a link to another website and I open the link it will load that site but immediately redirects back to my home page. This has only been going on for the past month or two.

Hello,

Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache. In order to try to fix these problems, the first step is to clear both cookies and the cache. Note: This will temporarily log you out of all sites you're logged in to. To clear cache and cookies do the following:

  1. Go to Firefox > History > Clear recent history or (if no Firefox button is shown) go to Tools > Clear recent history.
  2. Under "Time range to clear", select "Everything".
  3. Now, click the arrow next to Details to toggle the Details list active.
  4. From the details list, check Cache and Cookies and uncheck everything else.
  5. Now click the Clear now button.

Further information can be found in the Clear your cache, history and other personal information in Firefox article.

Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

Thank you.

Thanks for your advice. It didn't solve the problem entirely but has mitigated it somewhat. This only happens when I'm using Outlook so maybe the problem is in that program or my Outlook settings somewhere. I've checked but nothing obvious pops out.

I will be adding the "clear cache/history" to my regular system maintenance routine.

Thanks again.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

Thanks for the advice but the add-ons don't seem to be the problem either. It still reloads the Outlook main page repeatedly.

If I decide to reset Firefox to its original settings will I lose the bookmarks and read later pages that I have?

more options

Using the reset feature will NOT delete history, bookmarks etc. BUT WILL DELETE custom settings, and addons.

more options

Are "Read Later" pages stored by an add-on? If the add-on only stores the list locally, that will be lost when you Reset. If it stores the data in the cloud, after you Reset and reinstall the add-on, it should go out and get your list.

To test how Firefox runs "uncustomized" on your system, could you do a two-minute experiment?

Create a new Firefox profile

A new profile will have your system-installed plugins (e.g., Flash) and extensions (e.g., security suite toolbars), but no themes, other extensions, or other customizations. It also should have completely fresh settings databases and a fresh cache folder.

Exit Firefox and start up in the Profile Manager using Start > search box (or Run):

firefox.exe -P

Any time you want to switch profiles, exit Firefox and return to this dialog.

You'll click the Create Profile button. I recommend using the default location suggested, that is, don't choose your own folder. Then start Firefox in the new profile you created.

Does Outlook.com behave more normally?

When returning to the Profile Manager, you might be tempted to use the Delete Profile button. But... it's a bit too easy to accidentally delete your "real" profile, so I recommend resisting the temptation. If you do want to clean up later, I suggest making a backup of all your profiles first in case something were to go wrong.

There are other things that need your attention.

You have two Shockwave for Director plugins (do not confuse this plugin with Shockwave Flash).

  1. Adobe Shockwave for Director Netscape plug-in, version 12.0.3.133
  2. Adobe Shockwave for Director Netscape plug-in, version 12.0.2.122

You also need to update your old Java 7U25 version.
