Firefox 4 Mac does not play mp3 files with quicktime. The first time it's maybe ok, the second or third time the control bar disapears.
I have a side with 10 mp3 files, embeded with quicktime. FF 4 and FF 4.0.1 for Mac shows sometimes the control bar of 1 file, sometimes of 3 or 5 or sometimes none. Each reload is different. If the control bar ist visible, FF plays the music correctly. Sometimes FF 4 demands for a quicktime-upgrade. FF 3.6, FF 4 for Windows have no problems. (QT 7.6.6, Mac OS 10.6.7)

I have a similar problem on an iMac. I have a site with two embedded mp3 files. At some point, I could no longer hear them. I cannot be sure it was when I upgraded to FF 4.0. (They play fine in Safari.) I have gone through the whole plug-ins troubleshooting routine; nothing worked. I have duplicated a friend's "combo" -- OS 10.6.7, FF 4.0.1, and the same plug-ins enabled. He can hear the sound; I can't. Based on Mozilla information, I assume it is the QuickTime plug-in that should be playing the files. I have the latest version AND I tested it at the Adobe and Apple websites and there appears to be no problem. Help!
I also had this problem (in Firefox 5, after upgrading to Snow Leopard). Changing Firefox to open in 32-bit mode fixed it:
Quit Firefox, then go to Applications > Firefox > right click and “Get Info” > select “Open in 32-bit mode” option. Relaunch Firefox.
Thanks, michaelz. 32-bit mode solves the problem. But what's about the user who uses firefox like it is, with 64-bit mode on? Therefore, at the moment, quicktime is with firefox not really usable. Hopefully, they fix that problem soon. I dont know, if that issue concerns to Apple or Mozilla.
I'm using Firefox 6.0, and had the same problem after upgrading recently to Snow Leopard. Your solution, michaelz, worked for me. Thank you!
Thank you for your wisdom. Your solution immediately solved the problem. Alberto
