Hi Amy.

This sounds more like a problem in Windows itself, of some kind - it could be several things; the most likely explanations are that either your PC is infected with some kind of malware that changes the DNS (the system that points a domain name to the server(s) on the internet), or a deliberate block has been put in place to redirect you, most probably using the exact same method. (Note that 'deliberate' could be several things - a company network not allowing facebook is one example, or someone pulling a prank on you is another!)

Do you end up on Facebook if you follow this link: http://69.63.189.16/ (this is the real IP of one of the Facebook servers)?

And if you use a proxy site (like Anonymouse.org), do you get to Facebook if you type it in the address field on the page?

If the problem is local (on your computer), you can start out by checking and (if this is the issue) fix your HOSTS file. This is the most used method for redirections; here is a guide explaining step by step: Check & Repair Windows HOSTS file.

If the HOSTS file is clean, there is either a program running on the machine actively doing redirection, or the problem isn't on your local machine at all in which case you'll have to contact the network admin or your ISP.

If its local, you should certainly scan the PC intensively to find the reason - the offending program - and we have a guide that might help: Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware.

Please let us know how above works out, and if we can be of further assistance. Detailed feedback is appreciated and helps us to help more users with similar problems.

I was able to get into Facebook using Anonymouse. When I used the IP for the Facebook server, the home page came up, but I was unable to log in.

If you have a Cisco/Linksys router, that could be your problem. I was having this issue in both Google Chrome and Internet Explorer, and I couldn't find any answers across the internet, until I came across this website. Who would have guessed it's the router!!

Hope that helps somehow. Good luck! I know it's a pain.
