Downloaded the latest version of Thunderbird for my emails, which seems to have been a mistake.

I view my emails in full page mode, and when I 'delete' it the next email should open up (the one I received next)

But after the update, when I have read my email and click on 'delete' it reopens the former email ? which is useless.

Why is it doing this?

I think this may relate to your sort order of the inbox. I did a quick test and confirmed that the 'next message' displayed varies with whether message list is set to ascending or descending. Anyway, that's how it seems to work for me.

Thank you, but No, the order of the emails has not changed from the previous version. I do understand what you are saying, but Thunderbird keeps going backwards.

See https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1326829

There is also a setting under Settings/General/Reading & Display: Close... on move or delete.

Thank you, But I do not want to close the full page email tab. I just want the next email to open up in the correctly received order

See the link in my previous reply. Config. editor is under Settings/General, at the bottom.

Oh , sorry

I have had a look at that, but I now have no emails to test, so I will check tomorrow

Well that didn't work either. Any way to re-install the older version ?

I am seeing exactly what you want. I have view>sort>unthreaded and ascending I also have mail.delete_matches_sort_order set to true in config editor. Yes, you can revert to a prior version, but it's a bit risky. All development is focused on 102 and my personal recommendation is to try working with it.

If you do decide to go back, you need to start thundebird as follows: thunderbird.exe -p --allow-downgrade you can do that by clicking windows key and 'r' key together and then entering that text in the window that opens . be sure to back up the profile first.

Thank you for that, unfortunately I am not a computer wizard.

Do I need to download a previous version first ?

No, but it's always a bit risky. You set the feature from @sfhowes and set sort to ascending and it still didn't work? Please re-verify, because his approach works for me. If you do attempt a return to previous version, I hope it goes well.

It runs OK until I 'do' something with an email !!!

If I fully open an email, and I read it and then 'delete' it, it opens the next newest as it should and as it used to.

If I fully open an email, and decide I want to keep it, so I click on 'next' the next email opens. Again fine, but then when I 'delete' the next email this is where it goes tits. It re-opens the email I previously kept. It losses the knowledge that it is supposed to open the next newest.

Well, it's your call. Reverting to prior version seems to be your preference. Good luck.
