Currently @ Ver. 102.0.1 Problem remains. Since the update to 102.0 my Win10 PC has problems with the page update. When the scroll slider gets near the bottom the page, new images begin to load. This reload results in 3-15+ newly loaded Fb posts scrolling past so fast as to be invisible. I have to keep my cursor on the scroll slider and, when the loading begins, start scrolling up if I want to have any chance to easily find the last post I was reading. I have seen this behavior, grossly exaggerated, when I was viewing a video. The reload caused the viewing to pause and upwards of 15 newly loaded posts scrolled past in this rapid manner. My work requires that I am able to view pages of Facebook posts and this is now massively time-consuming and intolerable. I may have to change browsers in spite of my reluctance to do so.

1) The mouse displays no evidence of scrolling issues at any time & was not in scrolling mode when the problems happen. 2) There is no evidence of any stuck keys...anywhere, and the keyboard was not in use when the problems happen. A simple keyboard test reveals zero keyboard problems. There have been no software nor hardware changes prior to this issue being observed...except for the Firefox update.

FYI Facebook is the only web site that I visit that requires continuous scrolling & comment loading to peruse the page contents. I do participate in some chat rooms that have more than a single screen's worth of data, but to a much lesser degree than Facebook. They tend to load all at once.

I just saw your request for mouse & keyboard info. Logitech mouse G602 & keyboard K350 Both have good batteries and are within 1.5 feet of their receivers. They respond without any measurable latency and provide excellent performance across the board; from graphics editing & data entry to games.

I have this same problem with Firefox 102.0.1 on two Win 7 computers using different accounts. I do not have this problem using Chrome on those same accounts.

I have two other Win 7 computers with the same problem. It only appears to happen after I've been scrolling in the News Feed for a while.

Now it's happening on my Win 10 laptop. Same version of Firefox on 5 different sets of hardware.

I am having a similar issue. When i load into fb, it works fine at first, but after a little while i will be scrolling down my feed and it will jump ahead in a flash and i have to use the scroll bar to go back to find where i was. i use a logitech track ball and a corsair keyboard. I thought maybe it was the logitech smooth scrolling extension for firefox, but disabling it made no difference. at one point i disabled all my extensions and it was still giving me the same issue.

Similar issues here on an imac (osx 10.15.5 Catalina) and Firefox 102.0.1 (64bit). It's been happening for about 2 weeks now. Last update to current FF did not fix the issue (which I think was just about a week ago-ish). When scrolling with mouse, (usually after a few pages load (a quick refresh and the problem is less noticable), at the point when the scroll bar gets low, it loads the next stories from FB, and the screen will either flash for a millisecond and remain where it's at, OR it will flash and jump down any where from 1-3 stories, and on rare occasions, it will start flashing and loading stories/posts and it won't stop until about 15-20 get loaded and I have to scroll way up to get back to where I was. I have noticed the 'page down' button helps, but it still happens. I started in 'safe mode' and same problem so no extensions.

Note that this can happen if you scroll by dragging the scroll bar and reach the bottom because this leaves the scroll bar at the bottom and keeps triggering the reload.

Does this also happen if you use the cursor down key to scroll ?

Start Firefox in Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration or userChrome.css is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Themes
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Troubleshoot Mode start window

On the Settings page, I turned off everything under Browser like AutoScroll and SmoothScroll. I thought it fixed the problem... but I didn't wait long enough. It started happening again, NewsFeed posts flying by out of control.

"Does this also happen if you use the cursor down key to scroll ?"

Yes it does and if I use the Page Down key as well.

I have not had the time to try Troubleshoot Mode. Maybe in a few days.

It's good to know that others are experiencing this problem, too.

My gut feeling is that, since the only changes that took place on my computer were the Firefox updates, the causes reside in the updates.

I have the same problem. I upgraded from a Dell to an HP computer and the problem persists. I use a Rapoo mouse. Like others, this problem appeared a short while ago after an update. VERY irritating as I administer several pages and groups on FB

I think Facebook is messing with Firefox. Chrome still works perfectly but today Firefox isn't scrolling as should. After a few posts, it just stops and I have to refresh the page to get anything more.

Interesting. Now Chrome is only scrolling a few posts before stopping.  !!

Recently I've had the same occasional issue with the failing to continue to load the page. I found a way to break out of the "lock"; choose the "Most Recent" option for your viewing and the page will resume its reloading. I've tried disabling my plugins to see if the original reloading issue stops, but nothing I do has any effect. I have not had the time to follow the full trouble shooting routine. Maybe later today. It's interesting ( and disappointing ) that you are having the same issues with Chrome that we are having with Firefox. A simple solution like changing browsers is no longer valid, it seems. Maybe they both handle the scrolling function in the same manner and Facebook has introduced one of its infamous unnecessary/unwanted code changes that is screwing the pooch. This is frustrating!! Grrr!

so this is everyday now is there anything we can do to stop this?

I have the same problem. It does not happen in chrome or edge. Does anyone know if Mozilla is working on this or even acknowledges the problem?

more options

None of the troubleshooting methods I have tried makes any difference. This doesn't seem to be much of a concern to Mozilla, but allow me to advise them: Small, hyper-irritating issues like this will eventually result in the death of a browser as users find another way to browse the Internet. It's the same response you will see with people exiting an elevator car to get away from someone who is constantly coughing & sneezing.
