Copy Image Doesn't Work

more options

When I right click on an image in Firefox, and choose the "Copy Image" option, it never works. In fact, it hasn't worked in years for me, and that's on numerous PCs, with Windows 7 and Windows 10. I'm doing this so I can paste images into Photoshop. It looks like, instead of copying the image itself, it's just copying the image file, but this means I can't paste it into Photoshop.

Doesn't work. Even in Safe Mode, it still will not copy images.

If it's copying the image file it could be .webp pictures. If that's the case then that's normal. WebP is an image file format developed by Google intended as a replacement for JPEG, PNG, and GIF file formats. It supports both lossy and lossless compression, as well as animation and alpha transparency.

Try using a webp to png converter after the you downloaded the picture. Here's one I recommend. (Click here)

@Mark - It does that no matter what file format is. It doesn't matter what image format it is, it refuses to copy the image. It's been that way for years. It will not copy .jpg, .png, or .gif either. Don't know about .bmp, but you don't see many .bmp files these days. Also, it has done this on multiple PCs, Windows 7 and Windows 10, multiple user accounts. "Copy Image" hasn't worked in years.

Nothing. It does the exact same thing as when I'm trying to copy a pic from the web: it doesn't copy the image. Instead, it appears to copy the image's URL instead of the image itself.

As for security software, I use standard Windows Firewall, and Avast Anti-Virus.

Have you tried disabling Avast, rebooting the computer and trying the same steps?

Hello,

To find the correct solution to your problem, we need some more non-personal information from you. Please do the following:

  1. Use ONE of these methods to open the Firefox Troubleshooting Information page:
    • Click the menu button The image "fx57menu" does not exist., click on Help Fx57Help and select Troubleshooting Information.
    • Type about:support into the Firefox address bar and press the enter key.
  2. At the top of the Troubleshooting Information page that comes up, you should see a button that says "Copy text to clipboard". Click it.
  3. Now, go back to your forum post, right-click in the reply box and select Paste from the context menu (or else click inside the reply box and press the Ctrl+V keys) to paste the information you copied into the forum post.
    • Due to a forum reply character limit, only part of the data may be pasted. You can use your mouse to select the missing text from the about:support page, right-click on the page to copy it and then right-click in the forum reply box to paste it into a new reply.

Note: The Troubleshooting Information page does not contain personal data, except for the full path to your profile folder. When you use one of the "Copy to clipboard" buttons, the profile path is not copied. Use other tools and methods at your own risk.

If you need further information about the Troubleshooting information page, please read the article Use the Troubleshooting Information page to help fix Firefox issues.

Thanks in advance for your help!

This worked: (Windows XP SP3, last XP Firefox, 28July2022) I did this with a Yahoo email inline image. 1. right click on the image, select VIEW IMAGE 2. right click on the image, select COPY_IMAGE 3. open up Microsoft Internet Explorer, 4. pick your destination folder, 5. right click in the blank area on the right side, 6. select Paste. Mine got pasted as thumbnail.pjp, which can be opened same as .jpg. I got the same results by using save_image (but with save_image I could give it a name).

When you use right-click > Copy Image, Firefox should populate bitmap data onto the clipboard, as well as HTML (added for Gmail at some point).

I wonder whether there is something unusual in how Photoshop sees the available formats. I don't have Photoshop any more, but are you using File > New > From Clipboard to create a new PSD, or pasting into a layer in an existing PSD?

As a test, are you able to paste into other applications such as Windows Paint or a Microsoft Word document?

Word has a little triangle below the Paste button to call up Paste Special and see what formats are detected on the clipboard (it might contain other formats Word doesn't care about). For example:
