I have recently added a second email account to my Thunderbird. My primary email account that I access every day is now frozen and asks me to enter a password which I have never initiated in the past. There seems to be no outlet to proceed further without the password. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Paul.

You probably had it saved and Thunderbird auto used it.

Some servers have altered their Authentication process. Maybe this is effecting you. What server are you talking about? Gmail, Yahoo, AT&T, Spectrum etc Is it a POP or Imap mail account? Some are insisting on changing Authentication method and others are instisting on creating special app passwords. So it would be helpful to know the server.

General method to updating a password: Logon to webmail account via a browser to see emails. If you can logon then you know your password is good. If you cannot logon to webmail use the 'Forgotten Password' link and follow instructions to regain access. Then reset the password and confirm you can use that new password to access webmail.

Back in Thunderbird: Menu app icon > Options > Privacy & Security Under 'Passwords' section click on 'Saved Passwords click on 'Show Passwords' You will have two lines for the account, incoming and outgoing smtp. Right click on each line and select 'Edit Password' Completely remove whatever is currently stored and carefully type in the new password - remember it is case sensitive. Do the same for both lines. click on 'Close'

Exit Thunderbird and wait a few moments for background processes to complete then start Thunderbird.
