Thunderbird 78.4.0 crashes upon launch
Thunderbird 78.4.0 has been crashing frequently for weeks, and today it won't run at all, even in safe mode. I am on a Macbook Pro, a few months old, OS 10.15.7. I tried re-installing it, no change. I always send problem reports! You must have a thousand of them now. Feeling desperate!

I took a look at Malwarebytes and it appears never to have actually been turned on, so I uninstalled it and rebooted. No change.
I Force Quit Thunderbird again, though, and it offered to send a report. I clicked ok. I then followed instructions to look at the report list, and it only showed the old one from June, no new one (I compared the names). So I launched TB again, it started spinning, I did a Force Quit, and it generated a report, which I am presently looking at. I can click OK again, and see if it will send anything (which it may not), or I can do something else with it. What shall I do?
try holding the shift key when you start Thunderbird.
Sorry, no change. It did claim to send another error report, which does not appear in the list (still only June).
Force quit error reports go to apple and are useless in this context.
Ok, I don't know why the person who originally responded to this issue (several messages have been deleted, not by me) was so insistent on getting the list of recent reports.
Nor do I know what to do now. Since messages have been deleted (there were 24) from this thread I'll recap:
- For months Thunderbird has been occasionally hanging (beach ball) and I have to Force Quit it. Sometimes it happens when I'm not even using it, but it's just open (I often have multiple apps open at once).
- On Oct. 30 it reached the point when it won't run more than a minute or two, and then got to where it hangs immediately upon launch.
- I'm on a fairly new MacBook Pro (last May) and all software is up to date.
- I have a separate login on this computer for business purposes. Its Thunderbird is working just fine, although I have seen a few instances of the hanging in recent weeks. I set up my personal email account under that login yesterday, and it's working fine. So there's something wrong with the relationship between Thunderbird and MacOS on *that* login.
What the *bleep* do I do now?
Thanks, Elizabeth

Because you used the term crashed. so the person was asking for crash reports. You used the wrong terminology. Something I see mostly from apple users by the way. To the point I usually just ignore their questions. Generally their expectations of me a windows user that has never paid an apple tax are more than I can deliver.

Well I would suggest you use the link in Troubleshooting information to go to About:profiles and create a new one and see how that goes.

The topic is split over two pages due to the excessive back and forth. You want the earlier ones click on the 1 at the very bottom of the topic.

As I said a new profile is probably indicated. it is a bit heavy handed, but apparently it gets you going and that is the desired outcome.
