How do I delete addresses in the adresssbook without having to go back to the top of the list every time I delete?

As the question indicates, I go into T-Bird address book and work my way down the list, deleting names I don't need. Immediately upon deleting, the contacts list screen jumps to the very first entry and have to cursor down to where I had left off with the last deleted name. this is so tiresome, I never get far in cleaning up my Address book.

Asking again is not going to gain more than keeping me busy closing and doing admin stuff. I did not answer this the first time because there is no way I know of to change the behavior. Apparently no one else had any ideas either.

I've no answer for why the list jumps to the top, but here is another method. Create an address book named Delete, then move a contact(s) from other address books by dragging and dropping onto the Delete address book icon. Note that the list stays in the same position. When you're all done, select all in Delete (Ctrl+A) and then the Delete key.
