Automatic logon to Gmail

more options

I earlier in the day log on to Gmail, I then rebooted my Mac and typed www.gmail.com in the URL field and to my surprise it automatically log me onto my Gmail account. It entered my user name and password and logged me directly into Gmail

How can this be prevented? This should never occur as it is a great security risk.

If you have your cookies set to never expire, then this will happen.

more options

I have it set to keep until I close Firefox.

Also that doesn't explain when a login to a site that requires credentials and I say "never" and Firefox still asks the question to remember a login credential for the same site.

Why would it not remember to never ask for credentials and yet log me automatically into Firefox with my credentials after a reboot?

more options

There are two possible explanations for this:

(1) The website set a cookie the last time you logged in, and you didn't log out of the site.

If you log out, the site should invalidate your session and may also remove the cookie so that it can't get you or anyone else into your account.

(2) Firefox may have saved your login and filled it automatically.

To check for that and remove it you can use the Security panel of the Options page:

"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Security

Click the "Saved Passwords" button to check whether Firefox saved the login for that site.

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

Pkshadow, This is why I beleive this is a security issue. My Mac did not log out of Gmail but I shut it down and rebooted. Firefox should never keep login information after a restart and never login automatically as soon as I enter the website.

I do not keep crendential information in firefox but it prompts me "would you like Firefox to save this login.." and I always say never yet it continues to provide that prompt whenever a login requiring credentials comes up. This is based on cookies isn't?
