why do certain imgur links fail to load unless "www." is manually added to the shortened link?

This link "imgur.com/IFWmL13" when clicked on from reddit.. http://www.reddit.com/r/BoysWithBraces/new/?count=50&after=t3_30s214 fails to load the image.. unless I add either "http://" or "www," in front of it, then it will load every time since its been cached.

History and cache have been both deleted, cookie for imgur also deleted.

@ethands I couldn't reproduce the issue completely but I did find these

  • imgur forces users to use non www version of the website, that is even if you try to access www.imgurl.com it redirects you to imgurl.com.
  • without http:// you cannot access any resource on the web, even if you don't see http:// on your URL bar, its there. Browsers hide http:// to beautify URL. If the website uses https:// its shown in URL Bar.

What I think is the issue for you can be the link you are clicking. It might have wrong URL in it. I don't find any problem with your browser.

I know the http:// portion is there I see it in the window title bar. If I load one image from imgur.. and it fails to display then copy the url "save link location" and paste it into the same window/tab and hit enter it works. Not all imgur links do this.. its kinda random.. almost.

Oh, if its an i.imgur or m.imgur link it works displays fine. its only the non i. or m. links that fail.
