The "manual" method is: when you see that suggestion, press the down arrow on your keyboard to select it and then press Delete. If Delete alone doesn't remove it, try Shift+Delete.

Another way is to use an add-on that lets you review and edit all of your form fill data. For example (I haven't tried it myself): Form History Control.

The forum software detected your Firefox as version 17. Is that correct?

Version 17 is not secure; Mozilla discloses security flaws after each new release. Is something holding you back from upgrading to Firefox 23? Please let us know so we can suggest solutions or workarounds.

If Help > About Firefox shows Firefox 23.0.1, you may need to clear the preference that is misreporting your version number. See: How to reset the default user agent on Firefox.

By the way, logins are stored separately from regular form entries. If you have Firefox save your logins, you can delete erroneous ones here:

(MAC) Firefox menu > Preferences > Security > "Saved Passwords" button

No, I had "save passwords" turned off.

If saving passwords is disabled then the names are stored as part of saved form data.

Use these steps to remove saved (form) data from a drop-down list:

  1. click the (empty) input field on the web page to open the drop-down list
  2. highlight an entry in the drop-down list
  3. press the Delete key (on Mac: Shift+Delete) to remove it.
