When I launch firefox it goes straight to the crash reporter. I've tried installing version 17, 18, 19, Aurora and Beta. I've run Microsoft security essentials (found nothing), MalwareBytes (found 7 files) and SUPERanti-spyware (found 422 files) I deleted everything they recommended. When I install it, it seems normal, then when I come to the last screen, I check "launch firefox" and click finish, firefox doesn't open, it just goes straight to the crash reporter. I've done everything I can think of and it still crashes.

This is the last crash report: Crash ID: bp-d75dd25b-825d-414a-bb5e-678de2130227

I have software that only works with Firefox, I've gotta have it! Please Help!

Sincerely

     James

Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a Clean reinstall. This means you remove Firefox and any leftover program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps one by one:

  1. Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
  2. After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu) and confirm all upcoming messages.
  3. Now, uninstall Firefox by following the steps mentioned in the Uninstall Firefox article.

IMPORTANT: On Windows, the uninstaller has the option to remove your personal data and settings. Make sure that you do not check this option; otherwise all of your bookmarks, passwords, extensions, user customizations and other Firefox user profile data will be removed from your computer.

After uninstalling Firefox on Windows, delete the "Mozilla Firefox" program folder, located by default in one of these locations:

  • (On 32-bit Windows) C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
  • (On 64-bit Windows) C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
  1. Go to the Windows Start menu and click on "Computer".
  2. In the Explorer window that opens, double click Local Disk (C:) to open the C:\ drive.
  3. Find the "Program Files (x86)" folder or "Program Files" folder.
    • On 32-bit Windows, double-click the Program Files folder to open it.
    • On 64-bit Windows, you will see a "Program Files (x86)" folder AND a "Program Files" folder. Open the Program Files (x86) folder.
  4. Look for a Mozilla Firefox folder. If you find one, right-click it and select Delete and confirm that you want to move the folder to the Recycle Bin.

Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:

  1. Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
  2. Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.

Please report back to see if this helped you!

Didn't work :( I did it just like you said. When I click on the desktop icon it's still going straight to the crash reporter.

Try to remove or rename secmod.db (secmod.db.old) file in the Firefox profile folder.

If that didn't help then rename the cert8.db file in the Firefox profile folder to cert8.db.old or delete the cert8.db file to remove intermediate certificates that Firefox has stored.

If that helped to solve the problem then you can remove the renamed cert8.db.old file.
Otherwise you can rename (or copy) the cert8.db.old file to cert8.db to restore the previous intermediate certificates.
Firefox will automatically store intermediate certificates when you visit websites that send such a certificate.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from an existing profile to the new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

I removed the recent Isingle) update to Windows 7 64 bit. It took care of the firefox crash.

FYI, prior to removing the recent win 7 update, ie 32 bit did not run while ie 64 bit did run!

Now I wait for the compatibility to be addressed to correct the issues with win 7.

I deleted secmod.db and cert8.db and it crashed. I created a new profile and it still crashed. Now I'm gonna try and remove the last windows update.

Getting this too after the latest Java update (went out earlier this week). I've reinstalled Java and such, but still no dice.

There were about 20 updates with the date 2/13/13 (most recent). I uninstalled all of them. IT STILL CRASHES! Now, I look in there and all of the Microsoft .NET Framework 4 updates say 2/28/13, they updated themselves! I am sooo confused! WHAT AM I DOING WRONG! I have to have Firefox, there's no way around it! I've tried installing my software on SeaMonkey.

Firefox in SafeMode works.

Also, my thinking with it being Java related is even (ugh) Internet Explorer is crashing immediately.

Sorry for the topic pollution, feer.

I ended up solving my crashes by disabling hardware acceleration.
