email links open 300+ tabs in Firefox

When I'm online and click a "contact us" or similar link, even if I'm in Safari, FF opens over 300 email tabs (and therefore freezes). I have to force quit FF. I'm baffled. I don't know when this started, but it sure is irritating.

You get that problem if you select the Firefox program to handle a file if you get an "open with" dialog.

Check the Mailto application in Firefox > Preferences > Applications
Make sure that it isn't set to the Firefox application.
